Jim Parsons

“I’ve been watching television for years.  We’ve come a long way.  It’s beyond just being more common — or maybe that’s the good point about it.  It’s common, it’s ordinary.  It’s unremarkable.  I don’t think we’re there just yet, necessarily, but it’s getting close.  I’m sure there’s a segment that it is still a big deal with, but it doesn’t seem to be a large enough number anymore to make it stop happening”.

Jim Parsons Big Bang Theory star extraordinaire, is gay. The man known to fawning fans as Sheldon Cooper quietly came out of the closet during a recent interview with The New York Times.

The Jim Parsons article notes simply, “Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment, he said.”

He is best known for playing Sheldon Cooper on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, with his performance often cited as a significant reason for the program’s success. He has received several awards for his performance, including the  Television Critics award for the highest individual achievements in comedy, the National Association of Broadcasters Television Chairman’s Award for a significant breakthrough in a specific art discipline, two consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.

If there is one indicator of television adapting to the times, it’s perhaps not this hodgepodge of shows and the success of one over another, but the presence and treatment of homosexuality.  Parsons, who’s out, doesn’t play a homosexual; Sheldon is straight.

    1. We’ve had a giant crush on him since Garden State! Keep an eye out for his portrayal of Tommy Boatright in the film of The Normal Heart. It’s an incredible character and we’re sure he’ll deliver it with his usual brilliance. BCW
