Ellen Degeneres Receives The Mark Twain Prize

The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor is America’s foremost award for comedy, and has been awarded by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts annually since 1998. Last time I was in Washington, Tina Fey won it and this year it’s gone to another incredible woman. Namely Ellen Degeneres.

It may not seem like a big deal now, but when Ellen came out on her TV show and in real life in the ’90s, it was considered one of the riskiest things you could do to your career.
