Friday poem 29 November: Geese by Ian McFadyen

A year of Scottish literature

I’ve chosen this love poem in honour of #LGBTearth – a kind of global digital pride campaign in celebration of all that is great about being LGB or T. This poem was written by former Peebles school teacher Ian McFadyen (b1950). I’m not sure whether he’s gay, but this poem about the nature of love seemed apt. It is beautifully read by Natasha Hallett.

Geese

That I choose you or
you choose me to
make our lives together is
a lie:geese-v-formation (1)

whatever binds us
is whatever holds this
arrow of grey geese
straight in the sky.
