So, last Thursday, 13th of February, *this* happened. Regular LGBT icons contributor Joe Church-Woods finally got to meet his hero, Armistead Maupin, 18 years after first reading the initial book in the Tales of the City series. Maupin had come to Edinburgh as part of his book tour to promote the ninth and final novel in the Tales series – The Days of Anna Madrigal.
Joe had this to say:
“It was a truly wonderful and somewhat moving experience, getting to see Armistead Maupin in all his iconic glory, read from this final chapter of the Tales of the City story. Naturally, I was also very excited to meet Mr Maupin afterwards, as he signed my copy of the book. Although to be honest, I was a bit too start struck to think of anything meaningful to say. I mostly stared at him and giggled. Not the most profound of encounters, but a momentous occasion all the same.”
A proper blog post about Armistead Maupin and the Tales of the City books will follow in due course, so watch this space!
