TRANS Scripts: a verbatim play

Trans Scripts is a 100-minute stage play that incorporates verbatim material culled from over 200 hours of interviews with 70 people from around the world who identify on the transgender scale. Its characters range broadly in age, ethnicity, socio-economic status, educational level and gender. The play is currently performed with seven professional actors from New York City.

trans_scripts_poster-630x367From the producer of the Edinburgh Fringe First Award-winning What I Heard About Iraq and the Herald Angel Award-winning Taylor Mac comes an exciting new verbatim play about the most important civil rights issue of our generation.

Trans Scripts is also the centerpiece of a larger interdisciplinary, multi-phase, performing arts and education project created to raise awareness of, and demystify, the transgender experience for a broader audience. As part of the project, the play is available as both a stand-alone performance with a talk back, or as part of a residency that can be customized for a wide variety of learning experiences.

UntitledPerformances are supplemented and enriched by guest speakers, talk back sessions, educational materials and online resources that explore issues of gender, gender expression, identity and sexuality.

The team is in the UK next week to workshop the show in front of live audiences.

Performances will take place in:

Wednesday, 25 June and Thursday, 26 June at 8:00 pm at the Lyric Theatre, 9 Barrack Street, Bridport, Dorset DT6 3LX.

  1. Hello, I am part of the Vermont Pride Theater in Vermont, USA. We are currently choosing pieces to present in summer of 2015 and would love to read a script. When will Trans Scripts be available for production?

      1. Hello again, Vermont Pride Theater is still hoping to hear back about the availability of a script. Has one been made available to the public, yet?

        1. Hey Andra:

I hope to premiere the show in Edinburgh this summer and then make it available after that. I also plan to make the script available for a flat fee for one-night readings on or around international Transgender Day of Remembrance in October.

  2. Hi all, thanks for your interest in this article and of course in the play. I’ve just chatted with Paul Lucas who is the producer and though the script is at the final stages of development it is not yet ready to be shared. He mentioned that this is of course his ambition for the piece, so keep an eye on him and hopefully when it’s ready you’ll get your chance. You can find out more about Paul at If you don’t already subscribe to, do that too as I’m sure we’ll run more information on this show as it develops. Barry x
